A Brief History of Addhya Shakti Jagatjanani Jagdamba

A Brief History of Addhya Shakti Jagatjanani Jagdamba

Shakti, the omnipotent (all powerful) and omnipresent (present everywhere) is the source of all existence. She has reincarnated (taken AVTAAR) again and again as Goddesses in different forms and generated our God. Her devotees, followers and believers worship her since time immemorial to receive her blessings, prosperity and protection.

The three Goddesses (Tridevi) are:

1) Parvatidevi (Jagdamba): the other half of Lord Shiva, destroys evil and establishes goodness. She protects and blesses her devotees with peace and  prosperity,

2) Maha Laxmidevi (Goddess of wealth): the other half of Lord Vishnu, provides her devotees with wealth and welfare. She is also known as Vaibhav Laxmi (vaibhav means wealth )

3) Sarasvati Devi (Goddess of knowledge and harmony): the other half of Lord Brahma, provides her devotees with knowledge and education.

Hindus chant the names of these Gods and Goddesses when they hold ‘Yagna’, a religious performance held in the presence of ‘God of Fire’. ‘Navchandi Yagna’ is one of the most popular Yagna, usually held on Dashera, the day after ‘Navratri’.  Most Hindus pray to them at home regularly.

The three main Gods(Tridev) are defined by the letters in the word ‘GOD’:

G for Generator (Lord Brahma)

O for Operator (Lord Vishnu)

D for Destroyer (Lord Shiva)

Many Hindus pray these deities in the form of idols. They also worship many other deities according to their inheritance, beliefs and freedom. Their idols are symbols of worship in the Hindu society. These diversities of praying have cultivated tolerance and acceptability of different religious beliefs. Hindus believe and accept that all paths lead to one destination, the God.

It is believed that these deities sustain ( support or prop ) the existence of endless Galaxies including our Solar Systems. Science is trying by experiment to discover what already exists. Religion teaches us about our existence without trial. It is believed that our God maintains balance of nature as the sun shines, wind blows, rain falls, fire lights, water and air support life, and our Earth provides food and ayurvedic medicine. He has gifted us with five senses as well  — eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell, tongue to taste, and skin to feel.

Wise beings are guided by intellect and not by instinct. We know our intellect (brain) controls our wavering mind. Simple example : A jockey, with his rein, tames and controls his horse. Similarly, our brain tames and controls our wandering mind. It is often said that our intellect directs our mind to see the right from wrong.  Our religion plays a big role in training us to think with wisdom and foresight to resolve our tasks successfully. An intellectual person identifies ‘good’ from ‘bad’. It is often said that a person is blessed when he uses the five senses wisely, but he is misled when he uses these senses recklessly. In short, our Hindu religion guides us to think wisely to lead a peaceful, meaningful life.
